West Michigan Bride wows guests at local venue: Long Road Distillers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - "I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you." -The Chaos of Stars

A woman’s wedding day is often viewed as the biggest day of her life - a night she's dreamed about since she was just a little girl. It’s the night she marries her love, her best friend, and her forever roomie.

It’s not until you’re planning a wedding that you really realize all that goes into this magical day.

Bring on the stress, the laughter, the tears, the romance, the nerves, the "bridezilla" moments, and much more!

Each month we’re choosing one West Michigan bride to feature her wedding day and all the fun, crazy steps in between.

*Meet Mrs. October, Sydney Snider!*

Q1

Tell us your engagement story...

Our engagement story isn't anything extravagant. We started dating February 5th 2016 and got engaged April 3rd 2016. He has just got home from work and came into the kitchen where I was, he put the ring (which is a pear shape) into his front pocket. I could totally see it, so I pulled it out of his pocket. Haha he didn't really have a plan anyway, he just wanted it to be us. I totally think it was!

Q2

Who was your photographer? Where did you take pictures throughout the day?

The Portos! They are based out of Florida. We took couples portraits around downtown Grand Rapids by the Market St. area. We also took pictures at Bethke Farm's in Grand Haven where our ceremony was.

Q3

What month did your wedding take place?

August.

Q4

What was your venue & why did you choose it?

Our ceremony took place at Bethke Farm's in Grand Haven and our reception was at Long Road Distillery.

Q5

Who was your band or DJ? Are they from the area?

We had Jeffrey Schildroth, he is from the area.

Q6

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Creating a fun and unique unity ceremony. My best friend's boyfriend made us a volcano. She married us as well so she incorporated it into what she said.

Q7

What is one thing you wish you would’ve done on your wedding day that you didn’t?

I wish I would have had my florist do my centerpieces. I liked what I did, but the extra work wasn't worth it. Plus real flowers are so much prettier than wood flowers.

Q8

Did you do a first look? Why or why not?

Yes! I loved it!! We did it mainly to calm my husband's nerves and my parents wanted a picture of the four of us in front of their Ford Mustang for a magazine article.

Q9

What was your least favorite part of the planning process?

Making sure we were staying on budget.

Q10

How involved was the groom in planning the wedding?

Definitely involved. He helped pick the reception venue and would give opinions, but ultimately wanted it to be my day.

Q11

Where did you find your bridesmaids' dresses? Were they all the same or different styles?

We actually rented them! It was such an easy process and no one had to spend more than $100 for them.

Q12

Favorite moment from your wedding day?

Our volcano unity ceremony was AMAZING!

Q13

Describe your wedding dress & where did you find it?

I actually found my wedding dress online and on clearance. The dress maker was moving away from weddings and it was so unique and totally me. The dress is a dark peachy color with lace and half lace sleeves.

Q14

Did you have a Bachelorette party? If so, where did it take place and what did you do?

I didn't have one. We had a small wedding party so we just did something fun with everyone individually. My husband went skydiving with his brother and I went on a trip to a conference with my maid of honor.

Q15

What's the best piece of marriage advice you have received?

At the end of the day, you're marrying each other. You're not marrying your in laws or anyone else, it's the two of you and that's all that matters.

Q16

What's your best advice for staying on a wedding budget? / Where could you have saved better?

Payment plans! Ask vendors if they offer them and make sure you keep a spreadsheet of every expense. Sales are amazing, especially if you're planning around Black Friday and the holidays.

Q17

Where did you get your bouquet? Was it from a place in West Michigan?

Fleurology Designs made my bouquet. She's amazing!

Q18

What was on your wedding menu & who catered?

Long Road had an amazing slider bar for our guests. My husband also raves about their ranch dressing.

Q19

What was your biggest 'bridezilla' moment?

I honestly didn't have one! I worked and payed for the wedding myself. The struggle was really just planning without my mom. She had to take care of my grandma a good portion of the time I was planning but was helpful when she could be.

Q20

What wedding detail was worth the money / splurge?

Hands down splurge on a photographer and get a dress that fits your body.

Q21

Best idea that you stole (from Pinterest, magazine, or other wedding)?

Honestly we didn't do anything based off of Pinterest.

Q22

What's YOUR best advice for brides-to-be?

Don't forget to breathe and be strong about the wedding you want. Don't let anyone else lead you to what they want, my wedding was 100% us regardless of what anyone tried to say. I stood my ground and made it amazing.
