Make the holidays a time to make a difference

Community Outreach

It’s definitely a busy time of year but it’s also a time to step back and remember those who need  our help. Today we have Adrienne Goodstal from Mel Trotter Ministries here to tell us about how you can help.

Mel Trotter Ministries and the Inner City Christian Federation recently announced the opening of two affordable housing units for men who are transitioning from the shelter at Mel Trotter Ministries into supportive housing.

Some homes are still in need of move-in kits and furniture. A complete list of needed items can be found at: www.meltrotter.org/givehelp/donate

Mel Trotter Ministries is collecting new and like-new winter clothing items as it prepares to serve thousands of men, women and children who are experiencing homelessness in greater Grand Rapids this winter. “Code Blue” is a term used at MTM when freezing and extreme temperatures threaten the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness.

Items Needed: New/like-new hats, gloves, coats, water proof boots, long underwear, wool or fleece socks and new hand warmers

When: October 22 through December 31, 2018

Where: Look for the blue barrels labeled “Code Blue Drive” at Mel Trotter Ministries (225 Commerce Avenue SW), its two retail stores (Sparta & Jenison), Gilmore Collection restaurants: The B.O.B., Bostwick Lake Inn, Bluewater Grill, Rose’s on Reeds Lake and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids branch locations including: David D. Hunting, Mary Free Bed, Wolverine Worldwide, Visser, and Lowell YMCAs.
