Meet Brenda Hunt. She’s the President & CEO of the the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Her passion for the people in her community runs deep and is evident to everyone she meets. Read on to find out more about this West Michigan power woman and her career.
Question 1: Describe your job and why you love it.
I have the opportunity to serve as the CEO of the Battle Creek Community Foundation where we work with the community to make Battle Creek a better place for all people to live, work and play. I love the people here and I believe in them. I feel a high sense of responsibility to the community that has entrusted me to lead their community foundation.

Question 3: When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
A forest ranger.
An Olympic athlete.
Question 4: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
Be true to yourself and your beliefs/ethics.
Question 5: What’s the job you’ve had (in your lifetime) that still gives you nightmares?
I’m still stuck on the passing the final exam to complete college – I have many versions.
Question 6: What’s the best thing you’ve done to advance your career?
Stayed in one community a long time.
Question 7: Flats or heels?
Heels in another lifetime on someone else’s feet.
Question 8: Crying at work? Okay or not okay?
Question 9: Work/life balance? How do you make it work? What time do you “clock out”?
Having many interests. Hanging around other people’s kids/children. You clock out when you die!
Question 10: Eating lunch at your desk? A do or a don’t?
Do. We don’t have a big enough break room for everyone.
Question 11: What makes you grateful?
Everything about my life.
Question 12: What was your biggest blunder in a job? What did it teach you?
I got asked my age and I answered. I was 23.
Question 13: Describe your morning routine.
Get up and go. Get a minimum of 3 workouts in each week. Read the verse of the day.

25th Anniversary at BCCF celebrated on March 1, 2018.
Question 15: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?
Keeping myself physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy.
Question 16: What time did you wake up today?
5am. Got up at 6am.
Question 17: What’s the first thing you notice when you meet someone?
Their physical posture and facial expression.
Question 18: What are you reading right now?
I don’t read many books. I still read most of the news online or via newspaper.
Question 19: In a typical day how many emails do you answer?
I’ve never counted. Seems like a lot.
Question 20: What’s your favorite TV show?
I like live sports favorites are Tour de France, Indy 500, Daytona, Olympics, pro-football, some college basketball.
Question 21: What’s your favorite spot for a meeting in West Michigan?
Anywhere with comfortable chairs and a good glass of wine. My favorite type of meeting!

Speaking at a friend’s funeral.
