The best care for the tiniest patients

Maranda

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) There’s a part of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where the smallest of patients get the best of care.

The Small Baby Unit is dedicated to babies born at less than 27 weeks gestation. These tiny patients usually weigh between one and two pounds. The hospital opened the unit in March of 2015 to provide specialized care for babies called “micro preemies,” who are tiny, fragile, and medically complex. The unit helps babies born at Spectrum Butterworth as well as other hospitals in Michigan.

If you would like to help the Child Life Services team at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, next time you’re out shopping, look for items that can be donated to the hospital. They are accepted at the children’s hospital library on Wednesdays or you can schedule a time on a different day with the foundation. Call (616) 391-2321.
