Red Wing's Justin Abdelkader inspires kids to open a book and follow their dreams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - March is Reading Month and across the state, kids are picking up books and making reading a big part of their lives. It’s something Detroit Red Wings forward, Justin Abdelkader, feels strongly about. Education has been a big part of his life, he even finished his college degree after going pro.

He believes education will get you everywhere in life, something you can always fall back on. In addition to encouraging kids to read, he’s also written a book, “Shoot for the Goal: The Justin Abdelkader Story”. It’s about following your goals and your dreams.

Abdelkader created Abby’s All-Stars children’s reading program. He chooses books for children to read and visits their schools and reads to them.
