GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Remember how I said in my first article how this wasn’t about losing weight? Well…

I love food. I have a terrible sweet tooth, I love me some carbs, and I drink a lot of coffee. I’m happy I’m adding exercise to the mix for a healthy lifestyle, but I really need to get my eating back on track and not scarf down everything in my path like a bear coming out of hibernation.

It seems to me that one won’t work without the other. If I don’t fuel my body the right way, I’m not properly prepared to run. And I’m not taking full advantage of the exercise if I sabotage it with a poor diet. And frankly, the more I weigh, the more I have to haul onto the treadmill, youknowwhatImean?

It all comes back to being healthy and feeling good. I want to focus on making good food choices, fueling my body with the right stuff, and watching portion control.

One thing I know I do right is my morning smoothie. It’s like a bright beacon of nutrition shining on my day, no matter what else I eat. Here’s the recipe:

  • 1-2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup frozen fruit
  • ½ cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ banana

Blend it all together and enjoy! It really does taste good. I’ve used spinach and kale and I mix up the frozen fruit depending on what’s available in the store. Add more greens as you get used to the taste and it’s like a salad in a cup! I also like to add a splash of apple cider vinegar for an immunity boost. Little touches like a squeeze of lime or even a few cucumber slices give it a nice, fresh taste.

So there you go, nutrition advice from a sugar-loving foodie wannabe. Bottoms up!
