Applebee’s announces Hometown Hero

In honor of our veterans, Applebee’s honors local servicemen and women through their Hometown Hero contest. Over 200 nominations were submitted this year, and it was narrowed down to 15 semi-finalists for the public to vote.

This year’s winner is Lt. Col. Roger Knopf from Muskegon. Knopf served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1974, and was part of the first Calvary in what was known as one of the deadliest battles in the Vietnam War.

His retirement did not stop him from serving his country; Knopf is known as a local hero, worthy of recognition for being a part of the Muskegon County Council and leading the Greater Muskegon Memorial Day Committee.

Congratulations Lt. Col. Roger!
