Grand Rapids Drive athletes play to support MFB wheelchair basketball

Grand Rapids Drive players are facing off on the court against Mary Free Bed’s Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports athletes for a special Turkey Trot wheelchair basketball game.

On Monday, November 19th, players from the Drive stepped onto the court with Mary Free Bed Pacers and Mary Free Bed Rollin’ Drive teams. This was a preview event for Perrigo’s special Drive fundraiser game benefiting Mary Free Bed on December 15th at 7PM at the DeltaPlex. At the game, ugly sweater jerseys, worn during the game, will be auctioned off to the crowd. Proceeds will benefit Mary Free Bed’s wheelchair basketball program.

The Perrigo Company plc, is a leading global healthcare company, and along with it’s foundation, The Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation. The foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that enhance the health, well-being and education of the community. The charitable game is an initiative put on by Perrigo and their philanthropic arm, their Charitable Foundation.

One Mary Free Bed athlete, Anthony Willmore, is a big fan of the Grand Rapids Drive saying, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”

Whillmore, from the Dominican Republic, had rehabilitation at Mary Free Bed after a bilateral below the knee amputation. Active with Rollin’ Drive, they went 4-1 in a recent tournament, and are on the path to reach the national competition in Division III wheelchair basketball.
