Local summer camp teaches leadership, service and philanthropy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - School is out, and many students are thinking about summer camp. Each year, the Ionia Intermediate School District's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) puts on the Michigan Youth Leadership Training Camp. The annual camp is completely youth-led, bringing students from across the state together to learn about the three C's of social justice, leadership and volunteerism.

The Michigan Youth Leadership Training Camp is four days of adventure, self-discovery, and friendship, cultural exchange, leadership-building and service. Students work on building leadership skills through simulations and experiences. They are able to strengthen capacity to work cooperatively across races, ethnicities, genders, geographies and socioeconomic backgrounds.

At the end of the four-day camp, students impalement their skills into the West Michigan community, through a day of philanthropy.  Click video above to watch.
