GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Tis the season of giving!
This time of year, the Holland Hospital Volunteer Council shines a light on patient comfort through its annual Lights of Love campaign, a festive and meaningful way to honor a loved one. When a donation is given on behalf of someone special, an added touch of care is also delivered to patients of Holland Hospital.
“Lights of Love gives the community the opportunity to honor or recognize a loved one or show appreciation to someone who’s cared for them and directly benefit the patients of Holland Hospital,” said Joan Maes, Lights of Love Committee Chair.
Holland Hospital’s Spine and Orthopedics Unit is dedicated to helping patients stay healthy and on-the-move. Patients who visit the unit are facing a variety of orthopedic challenges associated with sports-related injuries, joint replacements or coping with the symptoms of arthritis. Part of the proceeds raised this year will go towards purchasing a Sara Stedy, a patient transfer device that assists patients who can pull themselves up but are too weak to walk to the bathroom or back to their bed. The proceeds will also go towards purchasing a Bariatric Recliner with a removable arm rest for better patient safety and comfort.
In addition to the Spine and Orthopedics Unit, part of the proceeds will go towards purchasing a TRANS-IT® Car Transfer Simulator for the hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation program. The simulator will be true-to-life with functional doors, a seat bench and tilt steering column. The “open back” design will make training easier for patients and staff.
The three new additions will benefit patients with joint, spine, trauma and stroke related injuries as well as those with degenerative and debilitating conditions.
“Without the support of individuals, we could not support patients in this way. We are thankful for this special community that continues to give to those in need,” Maes said.
