Healing beyond medicine with Holland Hospital’s K-9 friends

Holland Hospital

For people who have pets, they know the healing power that comes through an animal’s touch. Research has shown that pets have the ability to make a person healthy and happy. At Holland Hospital, they believe that along with healing the body, the spirit can be healed too. Holland Hospital’s Healing Environment Program, part of the spiritual care services, includes harp care, message therapy, art therapy and pettherapy.

Throughout the week, volunteers and volunteer K-9’s lift the spirits of patients and family members with a simple visit. Jordan Carson had the opportunity to meet with Heidi Plaggemars and (her dog) Bilbo, along with volunteers Char Nash and (her pup) Breslyn, as they use this unique service to help heal the patients.

Every small act of service makes a profound difference at Holland Hospital. The hospital continues to seek caring, compassionate individuals willing to volunteer. Click here for a Volunteer Application at Holland Hospital.
