GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- Which ‘wich’ is the best in Grand Rapids? The competition to create and find the best local sandwich in Grand Rapids is back on. For six years, The Grandwich Competition has made local area restaurants vie for the title of Grandwich Winner.
The competition is stacked up with businesses including Bagger Daves, Yesterdog, Furniture City Creamery, Hopcat Grand Rapids, and many local favorites. The summer long competition to create a signature sandwich began on July 5 and will run until July 28th.
Thanks to the Grandwich website it allows people to locate the sandwich competitors where they can cast their vote on their personal favorites. The judges will only judge the public’s top ten favorites. Want a sneak peak of the grand sandwich tour? The website gives you a glance of the tasty sandwich creations one can choose from. Which is the grandest ‘wich’ of them all? Here is a couple that caught our eye!
Current champion Bull’s Head Tavern | 2016 entry: Shepard’s Pie Burger
This is the Shepard’s Pie Burger from the Bull’s Head Tavern. Not only does it include five local farm ingredients but it is served on a homemade roasted garlic sourdough bun. If that hasn’t won you over yet, did I mention it is topped with a homemade three cheese potato cake? I know where I’ll be going for dinner!
Grand Rapids Brewing Company | 2016 entry: Hot-line Beef
To continue on your sandwich hunt, head on over to the Grand Rapids Brewing Company to try the sandwich that is bigger than my head, the Hot-line Beef. Bacon, beef, and doused in pepper-jack cheese: what more could you need? It also serves the spicy and not-so spicy lovers. A sandwich for all taste buds.
Furniture City Creamery | 2016 entry: Dessert “Cheeseburger”
Let’s take a trip to the sweet side of things. The search for the signature sandwich of Grand Rapids include all kinds of sandwiches. I had a chance to personally check out the burger that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
Furniture City Creamery’s desert Grandwich has taken the average cheese burger and made a sweet twist. This sandwich has fudgesicle ice cream packed in the middle of two graham cracker cookies. The ice cream mimics the beef, white chocolate mimicking the cheese, and kiwi instead of pickles, amongst other tasty goodies in the between replicating usual hamburger condiments. Heres the catch… it’s all made from scratch! It had an amazing blended taste of fruit and chocolate and I highly recommend to taste one for yourself. This sandwich may be a serious contender in grasping the Grandwich Winner title.
