GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) – After a long goodbye to Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko on Monday night, this left Calvin Johnson Jr. & Lindsay Arnold, Laurie Hernandez & Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess to dance their way to the Mirror Ball Trophy. There was live dancing and show-stopping performances at both The Grove in West Hollywood and in the Dancing with the Stars ballroom. The opening dance number featured all 13 of this seasons cast in an energetic performance.

Then came the stressful part. The remaining three couples performed their ’24 Hour Fusion Challenge’, that fused two different dance styles together with only a 24 hour rehearsal period given. These dances are always amazing and high energy, and last night did not disappoint.

All in all, the big winner of Season 23 is….drum roll….Laurie Hernandez & Valentin Chmerkovskiy. James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess came in second, leaving Calvin Johnson Jr. & Lindsay Arnold in third place.

Laurie and Val won the hearts of America early in the competition. With a mixture of Laurie being part of the Olympic Fab 5 and having her bright and bubbly personality, it was hard not to fall in love.

As far as comparing her Olympic golds to the Mirror Ball trophy, the two wins are not as day-and-night as one might think.“The Olympics, as a little kid, it was such a big goal I created for myself and I was able to push through and make that happen. For the mirror ball, I’ve always loved to dance and my passion was dancing as well as gymnastics, so winning the mirror ball today was insane and amazing,” Laurie noted.

Laurie will also be joining the Dancing With the Stars tour that begins December 16th in Reno, Nevada. All the best luck to her!
