ABC renewed the hit singing competition American Idol for a 3rd season. This will be the show’s 18th season overall, including the 15 seasons aired on Fox before the show moved to ABC in 2018. While there is no set premiere date at this time, it is safe to assume auditions will start sometime in January 2020

The show has made worldwide known names out of contestants such as country singers Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson, and pop singer Adam Lambert. On the 16th season, the show was able to do it again with Maddie Poppe, ABC’s first Idol winner.

Host Ryan Seacrest will be returning to the show and offers have been made to bring back judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie for this season.

American Idol has 2, 2 hour episodes per week, Sundays and Mondays. The Sunday’s installment is averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.9 million viewers. This places the show as the second-highest rated unscripted series on ABC, right behind “The Bachelor.” The Monday’s episodes are not far behind with a 1.5 rating and 8.3 million viewers.

ABC is excited to bring the show back and give people from all over the chance to make it big in the music industry! Who will be American Idol’s 18th winner and ABC’s 3rd?
