GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Students from across West Michigan joined WOOD TV8 for the Storm Team 8 Weather Experience on Thursday.
This interactive field trip allows students studying weather to learn first-hand from a local meteorologist.
Second and third graders from Endeavor and Meadowlawn elementary schools came to the Media Arts Center Thursday, where Storm Team 8 meteorologist Ellen Bacca taught students about everything from snow totals to tornadoes.
Special effects were created by fog and tornado machines with flashing lights to simulate weather events.
Later in the day, students from Grandville Central Elementary School came to the Media Arts Center. All of the students got to learn how to use the green screen and were able to test out.
Each student also left the experience with a backpack filled with goodies. The event will be held twice a month at both the Media Arts Center and at the 24 Hour News 8 Kalamazoo studio.
