Tranquil travel for Thanksgiving Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The weather is cooperating nicely for those traveling to visit family for the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Thanksgiving Day was partly sunny and pleasant with highs in the low-mid 40s.  This was sunset from our City of S. Haven Skycam.  Sunset in G.R. is now 5:12 pm – we lose only 4 more minutes of daylight in the evening with the sunset at 5:08 pm in the 2nd week of December.>>App users: Storm Team 8’s Facebook Live on travel conditions>>Inside Live traffic conditions

Black Friday shoppers will be happy to hear the weather won’t be unbearably cold. Lows Friday morning are expected to be near freezing with dry conditions. Afternoon highs Friday will soar into the low-mid 50s with a brisk southwest wind.  Gale Warnings are up for Lake Michigan for waves of 5-10 feet.  Best to stay off the piers and breakwaters.  There could be a brief, light shower Friday night – best chance of that will be north of G.R..
