GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thousands of homes and businesses statewide were without power Thursday as strong winds blew through West Michigan.
At the peak of the outages, more than 4,000 customers across the state were affected, Consumers Energy’s outage map showed. Service had been restored to nearly everyone before midnight.
A Walker police cruiser was damaged by a tree that fell during the strong winds. The branches shattered at least two windows, but the officer was OK, according to the Walker Department of Public Safety.
Storm Team 8 expected winds to remain strong through Friday, averaging 20 mph to 30 mph.
