Monday Damage and Flooding

This tree was down across Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo Co. – this is where the road goes between Austin Lake and Long Lake. 

There were 5 reports of tornadoes in IA and one in IL near Rockford – none of them caused any signfiicant damage.  There were many reports of flooding from IA, northern IL, S. Wisconsin and in the Kalamazoo area.  In Michigan, damage was reported at Dowagiac, Kalamazoo, Galien, Jones, Carleton, Pine Creek (Calhoun Co.), Romeo, Keeler (plus 7/8″ hail) and Mottville – mostly just scattered tree and power line damage.  Wind gusts hit 48 mph at Dowagiac, 44 mph in Kalamazoo and 42 mph at Brownlee Park near Battle Creek.    As of 1 am – there were 1,762 Consumers Energy customers without power, including 446 in Kalamazoo County and 383 in Allegan Co. 

This is flooding in Kalamazoo late Monday (9/3/18).  At least a dozen streets were closed due to flooding in the Kalamazoo Area.  Some Monday PM rainfall totals:  Lawton 1.18″, Kalamazoo (airport) 1,06″, Oshtemo 0.69″, Mendon 0.58″, S. Bend IN 0.52″, Battle Creek 0.51″, Kalamazoo Nature Center 0.50″, Lawrence 0.46″, Hastings 0.16″.
