The latest 8-14 Day Temperature Outlook from the Climate Prediction Center forecasts cooler than average temperatures for May 11 – 17. So, this cool pattern that we are in should last a couple of weeks.

There is now a Moderate Severe Weather Outlook across MS and western AL, with a significant swath of wind damage and possible a few tornadoes could occur this PM/night.

Yesterday PM, there were several tornadoes in Central Illinois and hail up to 1 1/2″ in diameter than damaged vehicles.

The best chance of severe weather overnight is in the (orange) Enhanced Risk Area on the map from NE Texas to W Kentucky and Tennessee. There is still a chance of severe weather overnight in the southern half of Illinois and the southern half of Indiana. Here’s the latest SPC forecast discussion.


We had a Wind Advisory for the lakeshore areas Saturday. Waves reached 5.2 feet at the Port Sheldon buoy. Other peak wind gusts: 48 mph Ludington and Shelby, 43 mph Mears, 41 mph Fremont and Cadillac and 40 mph at Saugatuck.

Climatological Probability of a Severe Storm on May 1

Here’s the climatological probabilities of a severe storm on May 1. The highest probability is in Central Oklahoma down into N. Texas. Note the low probability of severe storms in early May in South Florida and extreme S. Texas. Here’s local radar:
