First check out this video. This is the video of a funnel cloud taken from the Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon Co. Thursday PM by Shannon Flores. It’s located east of Michigan’s Adventure and just west of US 31 near Lakewood Club in Muskegon County. The video was posted on my facebook page. (side note…I have my limit of 5,000 friends on my facebook friend page. If you’d like to follow me, like my fan page). People asked if it was a tornado or not. Here’s what the National Weather Service said:
The funnel probably formed on the edge of the lake breeze. A light west wind meeting a general, light east-northeast wind. This funnel was not connected to a big thunderstorm with a strong updraft. This was a weak shower with a shallow updraft. So, even if this funnel did reach the ground, it’s likely that it would not have caused any significant (or any) damage.
UPDATE: The NWS says this about this Friday PM/evening: “
ADDED WATERSPOUTS TO THE MARINE AREAS GIVEN EARLIER REPORT NORTH OF MKE AND CONDUCIVE SYNOPTIC PATTERN OF UPPER LOW PASSING OVER 75 TO 80 DEGREE WATER TEMPS. ANY DEEPER CONVECTIVE CELLS TODAY/THIS EVENING COULD PRODUCE SPOUTS OVER THE WATER OR EVEN WEAK FUNNELS OVER LAND SUCH AS THE ONE REPORTED YESTERDAY IN MKG COUNTY."
