Strong to severe thunderstorms knocked out power to 41,000 customers in S. Nevada around the Las Vegas area.  The City of Las Vegas tweeted that there were reports of at least 14 intersections that were dark due to the power outages.  Wind gusts hit 40 mph at the Las Vegas Airport with the wind shifting suddenly from south to east.  They recorded 0.31″ of rain

Here’s storm reports from Monday.  The Las Vegas storm reports are not on the map yet.  However, note the lack of severe weather east of Rapid City SD.  Look at the severe reports around Phoenix and Yuma, Arizona.  Winds hit 80 mph at Florence AZ, 64 mph at Deer Valley and 59 mph at Scottsville.  There were two storm-related injuries…including one near the Sky Harbor Airport when an apartment roof collapsed in strong winds.  Yuma (the driest major city in the U.S.) had 0.14″ of rain, along with 41 mph winds.  Small hail was reported.  There was also a gust to 71 mph at Lake Martinex CA across the Colorado River.   Severe weather also occurred in far NE MT and far NW N. Dakota – with 86 mph winds at Dagman MT. and hail up to the size of tennis balls.
