Tropical Storm Florence

The center of Tropical Storm Florence is near Columbia SC. Winds.  Movement is west at just 3 to 6 mph.  Winds will continue to diminish and Florence will be downgraded to a depression this Sunday AM.  Here's a model forecast of the rain totals expected from the storm thru this weekend. (from www.weathermodels.com):  The purple area is 20-40".  Here's a national view of forecast rainfall from the Weather Prediction Center:

Note the heavy rainfall in S. Texas.  That's from a Tropical Depression.  Not much rain for West Michigan - less than 1/4" and that will come mainly toward the middle of next week.  Here's the current path forecast for Florence (should update automatically):

A 10-foot storm surge was reported at Cherry Island.  Here's a storm summary of the heaviest rainfall (over 30" - a record for a tropical storm in NC) and strongest winds.  There were over 200 water rescues. As of 10:40 pm Fri. - there were 915,000 customers without power in the Carolinas. A tornado occurred near Wilmington NC Saturday night shortly after midnight.
