GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) — WOTV4Women and WOOD TV8 are teaming up with our Connecting with Community partners to gather Water for Flint.
Sealed bottles and jugs of water are being collected at all Art Van Furniture stores throughout West Michigan.>>Find an Art Van Furniture store near you
The water will be trucked to Flint and distributed to residents by Catholic Charities.
There are several other ways to help the people of Flint, whose water has been contaminated by lead and is unsuitable for drinking.
The United Way of Genesee County is taking donations to pay for bottled water, filters and prevention efforts. Donations can be made online.
The United Way, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Hurley Children’s Hospital and the Greater Flint Health Coalition have created a fund to address residents’ short- and long-term needs. You can drop off water donations in Flint yourself. Donations of 100 cases or less:
- Catholic Charities Center for Hope, 517 E. Fifth Ave.
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Red Cross, 1401 Grand Traverse
Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations of 100 cases or more, pallets of water or donations in one semi-truck can be dropped off at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, 2300 Lapeer Rd., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For extra-large donations like multiple semi-trucks, email Janet Hunter at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange delivery.
Volunteers are still needed to go door-to-door to hand out bottled water, filters, replacement cartridges and water testing kits. Volunteers should report to the Red Cross at 1401 S. Grand Traverse, Flint. Hours of operation this week are:
- Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
