KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Western Michigan University has fired its head track coach.
Kelly Lycan coached track and field and cross-country. WMU Director of Athletics Kathy Beauregard announced his dismissal in a Thursday evening release.
The university said Lycan had violated his contract, but didn’t explain in what way.
“Our focus right now is on our student-athletes and moving the program forward,” Beauregard said in a statement.
News broke last week that Lycan, who had held the job since 2001, had been placed on paid administrative leave. The university would not say when he had been placed on leave or why, saying it was a personnel matter.
