MIDLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Great Lakes Loons Thursday to wrap up round 1 of the playoffs in two games.
The Whitecaps won 2-1 in 10 innings in Midland.
“There’s great pitching today. We didn’t have our offense, but we got to play defense and pitch well to keep us in the game. And (second baseman Luke) Sherley made a heck of a play at the end to put the game away. It’s one of the better plays I’ve seen with the pressure on in the late innings,” third baseman Colby Bortles said. “It’s exciting. It’s exciting to play another day. We get to back to our ballpark, play another game there. It’s exciting whoever we play to play for something, play for a championship ring.”
The Whitecaps shut out the Loons 6-0 Wednesday in Game 1 of the best-of-three series. They now advance to the Eastern Division Finals in the Midwest League Playoffs. They will play the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
