GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids native Dave Rozema, who won a World Series championship with the Detroit Tigers, was back in his hometown last week as part of the West Michigan Whitecaps’ “Tiger Wednesdays.”
Rozema spent 10 seasons in the MLB, eight of which were in Detroit. He was part of the Tigers’ great rookie class of 1977, finishing fourth in that year’s Rookie of the Year voting. He also won a World Series title in 1984 with the last Tigers team to do so.
On Wednesday, he was at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park to sign autographs and meet fans. He spoke with Sports Overtime about the park and the Tigers’ Midwest League affiliate; his 1984 championship season; and his former teammates Jack Morris and Alan Trammel, who are about to be inducted in to the Hall of Fame. Rozema also weighed in on the current state of the Tigers.
