GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday marks one month until the world’s largest 25K road race winds its way through downtown Grand Rapids.
The race on May 11 will be a huge day for the city. More than 18,000 people will take part in the Amway River Bank Run. An event this large needs hundreds of volunteers and folks can still sign up to help. Also, people can still sign up to run the 5K, 10K or 25K races.
This year’s event features a new option to run a “virtual race,” meaning people can run a 25K anywhere in the world and still receive a River Bank Run medal.
Race organizers are also working to improve the experience for those running the race in Grand Rapids.
“It’s definitely a great experience, great downtown area, everyone with similar goals all together at once. That’s one of the great things about the race,” said David Madiol, director of the Amway River Bank Run. “We’re trying to get some more motivational, fun things happening on the course this year and gain back some of that stuff that was originally done years back.”
Information on signing up to race or volunteer can be found on the River Bank Run’s website.
24 Hour News 8 will have on-air and online live coverage on race day.
