UNDATED (WOOD/AP) — Despite the Big Ten conference tournament title they won Sunday, the Michigan State Spartans did not get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 1 seeds are:

  • Kansas in the South (also the No. 1 seed overall)
  • North Carolina in the East
  • Oregon in the West
  • Virginia in the Midwest

Michigan State earned a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region. The Spartans will first play No. 15 Middle Tennessee State on Friday in St. Louis.

Many experts though Michigan State may get the No. 1 seed that ultimately went to Oregon. Oregon won the Pac-12 regular-season and tournament titles. The Spartans and coach Tom Izzo have been a constant Final Four threat, but they didn’t win the Big Ten regular season, just the tournament.

The Michigan Wolverines earned a No. 11 seed in the East region, but will have to defeat Tulsa (also No. 11) in a First Four play-in game in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday to get into the tournament proper.

The winner of that game will play No. 6 Notre Dame in the first round in Brooklyn.LEAKED BRACKET SCOOPS CBS SELECTION SHOW

A supposedly leaked official bracket was posted on Twitter during the CBS selection show. It ended up being 100 percent correct.

It was nearly an hour later by the time the network had officially announced all the teams, with Syracuse getting in and Monmouth – and its entertaining bench players – missing out.

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said he got a text from his son Kyle, a tight ends coach at Youngtown State, saying he had seen the leaked bracket and the Irish would play the winner of the Michigan-Tulsa game in New York.

“I thought he was messing with me,” Brey said. “So I just deleted it. Fifteen minutes later we show up, and then I found out we had a little leakage going on. Nothing’s secure, huh? That’s great. That is so typical. It’s so typical of college basketball. It’s great.”– Tom Coyne

NCAA Tournament championship game is scheduled for April 4 in Houston.—–Online: NCAA Tournament bracket
