GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Go ahead and call Pewamo-Westphalia the basketball capital of Michigan.

The Pewamo-Westphalia girls defeated Flint Hamady 40-33 in the MHSAA Division 3 championship game at Calvin College on Saturday.

This was the Pirates’ first state championship in girls’ basketball, and it comes on the heels of the boys winning the MHSAA Division 3 championship last week. Girls and Boys winning state championships in the same sport, in the same season.

Pewamo also won a state title in competitive cheer, which means the Pirates have won three state championships this winter.
