Griffins shut out Moose, force Game 5

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Griffins got the win Thursday, forcing a deciding Game 5 in their first-round series of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Griffins beat the Manitoba Moose 3-0 in Game 4 at Van Andel Arena.

The match was scoreless until late in the second period, when the Griffins scored two. They followed up with a shot into an empty net with less than three minutes left in the third.

Game 5 will be played at 7 p.m. Monday at Van Andel Arena.

In Wednesday’s Game 3, Grand Rapids outshot the Moose 48-25, but were never able to obtain a lead at any point. Manitoba jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals less than five minutes apart. Although the Griffins cut the deficit to one several times throughout the game, two empty-net goals at the end of the third period sealed the Griffins’ loss. The Moose won 6-3.
