GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Over 350 players are in Grand Rapids to compete in a four-day pickleball tournament at Belknap Park.

The field for the Beer City Open includes about 20 of the top-ranked players in the United States, which makes for some of the best competition in the region.

“This might be the No. 1 field that we will have the entire year of any tournament in the Midwest,” said Dave Weinbach, a professional pickleball player. “What a tremendous opportunity to come out here to Belknap Park this weekend and see some of the best pickleball you will see in the entire country.”

It is the first year Grand Rapids has hosted event, but organizers aren’t planning on it being the last.

“We have 15 courts, we are the only facility like this in the Midwest and we’re hoping to get more courts,” said Andrea Koop, the tournament’s director. “We want to keep doing this tournament and keep making it bigger and better every year.”

The Beer City Open runs through Sunday.
