Worker electrocuted while installing driveway in Kent County

CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators say a Byron Township man was electrocuted while on the job in Caledonia Township.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says 37-year-old Michael Andrew Dieleman was installing a driveway in the 6200 block of Egan Avenue SE, just west of Davenport University’s campus, when the industrial accident happened around 10 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities determined the concrete float Dieleman was using to smooth the driveway touched a power line and a metal ground stake, causing him to be electrocuted.

Dieleman was unresponsive when authorities arrived. He was taken to Metro Health Hospital where he died.

The sheriff’s department is working with Consumers Energy and MIOSHA to further investigate the case.

Authorities said Dieleman had been working for T.F.C. Construction, which is owned by his father.
