GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department has identified the Gaines Township woman killed when a deer collided with her car.
Elana Nhu Tran, 18, died at the scene of the crash, which happened around 8:45 a.m. Monday on eastbound 68th Street between the Paul Henry Thornapple Trail and Patterson avenues.
Investigators say the deer came through the windshield of Tran’s Lexus ESX300, causing her to lose control of her car, which then skidded on its side into a Toyota Rav4. Tran’s car came to rest on its roof.
Deputies say the second driver, a 45-year-old woman from Gaines Township, was not injured.
Authorities shut down a portion of eastbound 68th Street following the crash. The roadway has since reopened.
