GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — West Michigan’s first Chick-fil-A opened Thursday morning with a crowd waiting at its doors hours before.
The first 100 people in line at the Gaines Township location received free meals for a year. They camped out overnight for the deal ahead of the grand opening at 6 a.m.
Some of the people who camped out on Wednesday told 24 Hour News 8 it was worth braving the winter conditions. When 24 Hour News 8 caught back up with them the next morning, they were excited their wait was almost over.

Around dinner time Thursday, the restaurant was packed.

The opening dates for two other locations in West Michigan were also announced. The Wyoming location on 54th Street near US-131 will open Feb. 9 and the Portage location on S. Westnedge Avenue will open Feb. 23.
On Thursday, the Grand Rapids Planning Commission will discuss plans for a proposed location at the CenterPoint mall off from 28th Street near the East Beltline.
