KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kent County postal worker is facing federal charges for allegedly opening people’s mail and stealing their prescription drugs.

Prosecutors filed misdemeanor charges of unauthorized opening of mail against Sabrina Smith Monday in Grand Rapids federal court.

The alleged mail thefts happened between the fall of 2015 and March 17 of this year.

It’s unclear how many residents were affected by the alleged thefts or whether Smith is still employed by the United States Postal Service.
