KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – A Kalamazoo woman charged with murdering her 4-year-old daughter is heading to trial.

Daveeta Lee Walker appeared in Kalamazoo District Court Wednesday, where a judge ultimately bound her case over to circuit court.<a

Walker is charged with two counts of felony murder, first-degree child abuse and torture in connection to the March 26 death of her daughter, Kharisma Richardson. The 4-year-old girl was found unresponsive at a Douglas Avenue home on her fourth birthday.

According to a police report obtained by 24 Hour News 8, Walker admitted to police during an interview that she would “whoop” her daughter for having accidents with urinating herself. She also said Kharisma would get “whooped” for “mouthing off.” She told police she used a belt during the “whoopings.”

Walker told police her daughter was making noises like she was in pain when she went into her bedroom and wished her a “Happy Birthday” around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The autopsy showed Kharisma suffered injuries from blunt force trauma on her body. She also had burns with blisters on her feet.

Walker’s three other children, who police found in a bedroom watching a pornographic movie, were previously removed from her custody.
