When eastbound I-96 closes Friday, it will be closed from Alpine Avenue to Plainfield Avenue.
Ramps from northbound and southbound US-131 to eastbound I-96 will also close Friday. Traffic can exit at Alpine Avenue or take southbound US-131 to eastbound I-196 to eastbound I-96.
Eastbound is scheduled to be closed through mid-June. When eastbound work is complete, the Michigan Department of Transportation will switch to westbound I-96.
Crews will be working on all the bridges in this stretch of roadway as well as resurfacing.
It’s part of a large-scale MDOT project which will have several different closure configurations between Alpine and Plainfield avenues throughout the summer.
