GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The closure of Bridge Street on Grand Rapids’ West Side has been extended.

City officials said Friday that both directions of Bridge Street NW between Seward and Broadway avenues will be closed until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12.

Posted tours will be north on Seward, east on Second Street and south on Broadway for eastbound traffic. For westbound traffic, the detour will be north on Broadway, west on Third Street and south on Seward.

The street was scheduled to reopen at 4 p.m. Friday but due to construction delays at the former Red Lion building, located at 449 Bridge Street NW, it was pushed back to Monday.

Bridge Street is closed while developers dig a trench across the road to connect to underground utilities, according to the city.

Developers have demolished the former Red Lion building to build a five-story, 40,000-square-foot mixed-use development. It will include a restaurant and bar on the first floor as well as 44 residential units on the top four floors.
