Tire swing reinstalled in downtown Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two years after falling, the giant tire swing is back in downtown Grand Rapids.

The tire swing was reinstalled on the “Motu Viget,” an art installation by Mark di Suvero that has been outside the Gerald R. Ford Federal Building near Calder Plaza since 1977.

It fell in September 2013, injuring two children.

Since then, the artist has been working to make the swing stronger so that it would not fall again.

The tire swing was reinstalled with new parts Tuesday morning, and is now open for use.
