Tigers, Whitecaps renew development contract

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Future Detroit Tigers will continue getting their start in West Michigan.

Tuesday, the Tigers and the West Michigan Whitecaps announced they have agreed to a two-year extension of their player development contract.

The previous contract lasted through the 2018 season, so the renewal will keep Tigers prospects playing at Fifth Third Ballpark in unincorporated Comstock Park, north of Grand Rapids, through the 2020 season.

The Whitecaps have been the Tigers’ Class A Midwest-league affiliate since 1997.

The Whitecaps’ upcoming season starts at home on April 9. Individual game tickets will go on sale next month. Group and season tickets are already available by calling the Whitecaps at 616.784.4131 or going online.
