SPRING LAKE, Mich. (WOOD)- Four teenagers will face charges after police say they repeatedly broke into Spring Lake Middle School and stole money.
Capt. Mark Bennett with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office told 24 Hour News 8 they were alerted to the crimes earlier this month when school officials noticed money missing from various accounts.
Bennett said the teenagers broke into the school eight times between Dec. 22 and Jan. 12 during overnight hours. He said the suspects got in through a rear service door and took approximately $1,500 from an office.
Bennett said the teenagers also broke into Jeffers School on Leonard Street and took an iPad.
Surveillance video of the thefts led authorities to a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, who are all students of Spring Lake Public Schools. Investigators with search warrants combed three locations and recovered the stolen iPad and some property the suspects bought with the stolen money.
Bennett said none of the teenagers are in custody at this time, but they will face felony charges.
