GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday was a big day for an employee of the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office.

Sydney the dog was sworn in as the official canine advocate by Chief Circuit Judge Edward R. Post.

Sydney has been trained to work with child victims of sexual assault to lessen the stress and trauma that can come when victims confront their abusers. She also helps with forensic interviews, crisis intervention, trial preparation and court proceedings.

The swearing in event intentionally falls during National Crime Victim’s Rights Week.
