SW MI woman killed in head-on crash

BERTRAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One woman died Thursday morning following a head-on crash in far southwest Michigan.

The wreck happened around 6:50 a.m. on US-12 near Sage Road in Bertrand Township, between Galien and Buchanan.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says a westbound and eastbound vehicle collided head-on. Firefighters from two departments had to use the Jaws of Life to free both drivers from their cars.

They were taken a hospital in South Bend, Ind., where the driver of the eastbound car, 55-year-old Luann Woodrick of Galien, was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office said she died of blunt force trauma.

The driver of the westbound car, 52-year-old Jeffrey Norman of Granger, Ind., sustained only minor injuries.

A release from the sheriff’s office said one of the vehicles crossed the center line, causing the crash, but did not specify which.

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.
