ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan County man who allegedly poured acid on his girlfriend has been found not competent to stand trial.
The decision means that Gregory Marsman’s case is on hold while he undergoes treatment. If he is found competent after treatment, his case can move forward.
Marsman, 53, allegedly threw acid at his girlfriend, 54-year-old Sheryl Keech, in March after she returned to their Fennville-area home to find him destroying it. She managed to get away, making it to a neighbor’s house to ask for help. She sustained chemical burns to her face and chest.
Investigators said Marsman was allegedly making statements about Keech’s son being possessed. “Demonic” letters were also found in Marsman’s bedroom.
He faces charges of torture, home invasion, assault and third-offense domestic violence. He was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation not long after charges were filed against him.
If his case does continue and he is found guilty, Marsman could spend the rest of his life in prison.
