Storm sparks fire, blows plane off runway in South Haven

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A lightning strike ignited a fire at a South Haven-area business Monday night.

The lightning strike happened around 9:45 p.m. at Lakeshore Appliances in the area of County Road 380 and Blue Star Highway in South Haven Township, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services.

Authorities say flames were showing by the time South Haven firefighters arrived. Firefighters from Bangor and Covert helped them douse the flames. No one was hurt.

Later, around 9:40 p.m., storm winds blew a single-engine airplane that was landing off the runway at South Haven Area Airport on CR 380.

No one was hurt in that incident, either, authorities said.
