COLON, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who led deputies on a chase from Centreville to Colon stripped nude after crashing, authorities say.

The chase started in Centreville after the suspect driver took off from the scene of a property damage crash, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said, Deputies gave chase.

While the chase made its way east along M-86 through Colon Township, the suspect car caused property damage and nearly caused crashes with other cars, the sheriff’s office said. Eventually, the suspect lost control and crashed in Colon.

The driver then got out of his car and took off all his clothes. At first, deputies say, he obeyed commands but then he hit a deputy in the face. There was a short struggle but he was soon handcuffed.

The suspect, a 38-year-old Centreville man whose name was not released pending arraignment, was taken to the hospital and then jailed. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding, assaulting a police officer, resisting and obstructing, indecent exposure and driving on a suspended license.
