SPARTA, Mich. (WOOD) — For the first time in baseball history, a Cornerstone University player has been called up to the big leagues.

Ben Sheckler of Sparta was taken in the eighth round by the San Diego Padres. He’s the 234th player selected in the Major League Baseball entry draft.

When asked how many times he’s dreamed of seeing himself in a big league park wearing an MLB uniform, Sheckler had this to say:

“I think anyone that plays baseball that doesn’t do that, something’s wrong with them. So many times I’ve dreamt about it, ever since I started playing ball. I think it’s every little ball player’s dream.”

Sheckler went 6-and-4 with a 2.89 earned run average for Cornerstone last season. He was also a standout at Sparta High School.
