Sheriff IDs woman, 81, killed in St. Joseph Co. crash

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office is identifying the woman killed when her vehicle hit a tree in St. Joseph County Tuesday.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Michigan Avenue near N. Fisher Lake Road in Park Township, north of Three Rivers.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says 81-year-old Harriett Jeanne Swartz of Schoolcraft was heading westbound on Michigan Avenue when her vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane and went off the roadway.

The vehicle then hit a large tree. Swartz died at the scene, according to a release.

The sheriff’s office said deputies are investigating to determine whether a medical issue was a factor in the crash.
