PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) — The man who caused a deadly car crash north of Paw Paw last June is headed to a state prison.

Court records show Demos Johnson IV was sentenced Monday to between 19 months and 15 years behind bars.

On June 17, 2017, Johnson, then 18, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of 32nd Street and 45th Avenue in Antwerp Township and hit another vehicle, which had the right of way. The driver of the other car, 30-year-old Alex Yeider of Paw Paw, died at the scene.

Johnson was originally charged with a count of reckless driving causing death and a moving violation causing death. The moving violation was dismissed March 12, 2018. He was convicted of the reckless driving charge May 3.
