LaGRANGE, Ind. (WOOD) — Memorial services will take place Monday for a Sturgis area woman investigators say was shot and killed by her 9-year-old son.

One week ago, 51-year-old Pauline Randol was found dead inside her home on Plumb School Road near US-12 in Fawn River Township, east of Sturgis.

Her son, whose name 24 Hour News 8 is not using because of his age and the early stage of the case, is charged with open murder and a felony weapons charge. Relatives say he doesn’t know what he did or where his mother is.

Harley Martin says her mother adopted the boy about two years ago. Martin said the boy has a history of mental health issues and came from a troubled situation. Records show the boy has been in the court system since he was 10 months old, and his biological mother has battled drug addiction, which led her to break into vehicles in 2017.

Randol leaves behind her husband, son, two daughters, sister, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, according to her obituary. Her visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange, Indiana. The memorial service will follow.

Randol will be buried later at Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland, Indiana, her online obituary states.
